How should a classroom be?!!
INTRODUCTION:- In this rapidly developing world where childhood is limited to screen games and on screen activities that use audio visual methods to attract the attention of children. It is indeed a challenge to redirect their mind towards the real life experiences . One of the fun ways to do this is introducing them with physical mediums such as auxiliary percussion that will enhance the engagement of child in physical activities, for instance, shakers . Shakers are a fun way to explore new sounds that can we produced by random movements done by kids while playing . The use of shakers encourage movements in children as well as provides them favour full circumstances to investigate new rhythms, sounds patterns and motion patterns that pleases them and keeps them engaged in healthy physical movements . With the use of these sound based toys children can give room to their imagination and improve their emotion expressing skills by unfolding their feeling in a playful manner. This can spark child centred learning where they can survey the various different methods to use the shakers and also in acknowledging that how their choice affects the sound produced . Their interest in shakers can be enhancified by the use of decorative items such as catchy coloured ribbons , non – toxic glitters , non-toxic paints and many more .Moreover this can help them in movement as they can dance , sing or march to the rhythm of their own formation . As we move forward in the application of these shakers I Would like to list the material from which it is made . It includes yarn wrapped wires, metal bells that are light in weight and multi-coloured ribbons . This is made carefully ensuring safety while in use . My assignment is based on an auxiliary percussion that can be held comfortably, used by pre schoolers during playing and is safe for use.
HOW THIS IS DAP?
Shakers are developmentally appropriate according to their age as pre-schoolers are actively involved in movements Such as jumping , running , fetching. At this age kids are more into exploring things and unique ways to use them . Shakers produce sound when shaken which varies with the amount of force and direction or sometimes medium in which it is used. This will push them into finding ways to produce different sounds while playing . As my prop is made form yarn covered wires , it can be:
• bent into an arm hold that can induce arm or hands movements While dancing or running
•tied on feet to produce sound while running or dancing as well
• used as a magic wand as it is covers with multi-coloured ribbons and bells (both as harry potter or a fairy)
Pre-schoolers are also observant of sensory information, with this activity they will learn the nature of sounds when used in different ways. They can understand how movement is affecting the intensity of sound in a fun and effective way as they learn by using their senses.
BENIFIT OF THIS:-
Educators who facilitates open ended or child centred learning are greatly benefitted by this form of learning as it :
• *INCREASES STUDENT ENGAGEMENT: This is a great way to achieve student’s interest in the class room as it assists children to engage in the topics of their liking and they can also learn in the way that is interesting to them . In this way educators can have increased level of enthusiasm and engagement in students while teaching. This aids teachers less stressed about the ways about how to get them engaged in class and also makes them happy as all tend to learn something new with high energy.
• *BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF CHILDREN: through these projects that feature child’s thinking , it is easy to gain observation about each child’s strengths , interest and learning styles. This can also provide an idea of the state of mind it mind set of that child that can be monitored to make them a good citizen in future. Seeing these students thrive in a child centred learning can be really fulfilling for the educators. It allows student to take the charge of their learning and achievements which strengthens the teachers and their approach to teaching .
Overall, this type of learning can lead to more growing and enjoyable experiences for the teachers and students.
My designed shakers can be used in various ways to get the desired cognitive and physical benefits . Some of the open ended questions that can be asked from related to my designed shakers are:
